Many of us grew up during the Cold War, and a number of us have done their military service during the same period. In France, one of the largest arms manufacturers of this era was the DEFA (now DTAT and then GIAT). This French industrial gave birth to the AMX-30, original design tank, compared to the more heavy armor produced by the Anglo-Saxons. 30 tons was the battle tank as used by thousands of young conscripts during their military service. He represented a quasi national effort, the manufacturer with a large number of factories in several regions of the country. The crews of the armored, called and committed young soldiers from all regions of France, have served for over 40 years. The AMX-30 is for us, the authors of this book, a technical success on many levels, but also the symbol of an era. We hope that the old servants of this tank, all the elders of the French Cavalry, that everyone at some point in their lives have worked with him, that all European designers and pattern makers, and finally, that enthusiasts French military history, will appreciate this book on shielded that will forever remain in the collective memory. 47 years after its commissioning at the prestigious 503rd RCC, the AMX 30 is always in action.
